Student Seminars

Scott Lang is a national leader in student leadership development. Founded from fifteen years of secondary teaching experience, Scott can offer a wide variety of services which will find and tap into the hidden resources of your student population. Scott can meet the challenges and needs of any organization. No matter what the group, band, football, D.E.C.A., student council, he can help you maximize their potential and desire for greatness. He can work with just your group, or you can gather some similar groups to help defray the cost. Make sure to contact me and allow me to help your organization be the very best it can be. In terms of a workshop experience, there are three ways to format the workshop experience:

Single Group Workshop: This is when Scott works with your group and your group alone. The contents can be somewhat tailored to meet the individual needs of your organizational needs. The benefits of this are the fact that it is a little more intimate and "safer" for the kids with the draw backs being that you alone bear the costs for the workshop and travel expenses.

Multi-Group Workshops: Multi-group workshops combine multiple groups into one workshop. You pay a reduced fee for the workshop and split the travel expenses with the other groups. The content and formula is the same but the environment lacks some of the intimacy associated with a single group workshop. This format generally saves 40% of the costs or more. If four or more groups commit, Scott will pay his own travel expenses. The advantages of this format is:

1. Has an energy level which is pretty unique as the room is packed with kids.
2. Can be replicated year after year with little effort as the costs and dates are known in advance.
3. Can create a communal understanding of what leadership is (this is pretty cool, especially when bands cheer for each other)
4. Is a time for directors in the area to have meetings or meet and greet.

Region Style Workshops: Regional style workshops are formatted exactly the same as the multi-group workshops but instead of the program incurring the costs, the students pay "per head." The workshop is opened up to area schools and allows programs to not incur the costs and send smaller groups to the workshop, this giving the director the most flexibility.

Educational Conventions

In addition to Scott's active schedule of student centered speaking engagements, he maintains an active clinic schedule with professional education organizations on both regional and national level. Recent appearances include MEA conventions in Arizona, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Kansas, Alabama, Iowa, California, Nevada, Tennessee, New Hampshire and the prestigious Mid-West Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. Through Scott's classroom experiences he has developed a unique view of leadership, and how it impacts our professional and personal lives. Scott is eager to share knowledge and experiences with other music educators.
