Frequently Asked Questions

My group is playing well, why do I need leadership?

When I was a young teacher, I could not get my bands to take that final step to greatness. After working with my band, I asked a trusted clinician “how can I get my bands to from great to exceptional.”  He laughed out loud and said, YOU will never get them there, only THEY can take the final step. This is when I discovered that in order to help students achieve their maximum potential I needed to include leadership into my curricula.

My leadership workshops will help your students understand that in order to achieve greatness they have to give more to get more.  Your students will also develop a keen understanding of how their success is interdependent on the success of their peers.  I call it the “win/win. They are not in it alone. In order the performance to be successful, each and every individual must be successful.

What does the typical workshop entail?

Each workshop is built and developed based on the individual needs of your program. I will take the time to speak with you prior to creating the seminar to learn about the challenges you face each and every day. The workshop will address your specific concerns and will equip your students with the tools necessary for immediate and lasting improvement.

Workshops can be as short or as long as you prescribe and can involve a variety of people, including your boosters. I do believe that certain situations can help to create an optimal learning environment and I will work with you create the best possible workshop for your unique situation.

How can these workshops make a difference in our program?

The growing demands on the modern music educator have created a scenario where it takes a super human effort to create and sustain a successful program. Today’s savvy director knows that a strong student leadership program is not a luxury but a necessity.

After working with Scott, your students will understand that in order to get something from your program, they have to give something to the program. Using a series of unique stories and activities, your students will understand the chasm between where they are and where they want to be can only be overcome through sacrifice and commitment.

In short, our goal is to ensure that your students will have a more enriching educational experience while simultaneously making your job more manageable.

Why should I hire Scott?

After fifteen successful years as a classroom teacher and administrator, I have created a unique, entertaining and memorable way to challenge students to be the best they can be.

We hire people to arrange music, write drill, choreograph, write percussion parts and so much more. We ask them to do what they do best in order to allow us time to do what we do best. Teaching leadership is no different, LET ME DO WHAT I DO BEST SO YOU CAN FIND TIME TO DO WHAT YOU DO BEST.

In addition to leadership, can Scott clinic my group?

YES! my ensembles have performed for the Tournament of Roses Parade, the M.E.N.C. National Biennial Conference with the Canadian Brass, State Music Conventions, Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship and for President William Jefferson Clinton. I am equally adept on the field, on the podium or in front of a jazz ensemble.
